Ana Karina Rossi
Mezzo-soprano Ana Karina Rossi is one of today’s leading singers of tango. The Montevideo-born studied in her hometown before moving to Buenos Aires to study at the local Academia Nacional de Tango. She then studied in London with soprano Beatriz Lozano. Her breakthrough in the world of tango occurred when she came across poet Horacio Ferrer, the author of the libretto to Piazzolla’s ‘Maria de Buenos Aires’: they went on to a fruitful artistic collaboration that lasted ten years and involved him trusting her with the premieres of some of his works and prompted Ferrer to describe her as ‘a heart that sings’. Aside from her career on the stage, Ana Karina has tried her hand as a producer/director at a number of projects combining music, dance and the visual arts. She regularly holds vocal coaching sessions and masterclasses in festivals and residencies, mainly in France. Mrs. Rossi has been living in Paris since 2012.
