André Camacho was born in the island of Madeira. He began his musical studies at the age of 5 and studied at the Escola Profissional Metropolitana, in Lisbon, where he became a member of the first Percussion ensemble to win the Prémio Jovens Músicos competition, in 2011. He completed his degree at the Royal Academy of Music, in London, in 2016, and his Master’s degree at the Royal College of Music (RCM), in 2019. He was 1st Prize winner of the RCM Concerto Competition, performing solo with the RCM Symphony Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, André has had the opportunity to work with great conductors, such as Bernard Haitink, Semyon Bichkov, Pierre Boulez and Vasily Petrenko. He has collaborated with several orchestras, such as the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Southbank Sinfonia, Orquestra XXI and Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, among others.
