Daniel Bonilla-Torres

Puerto Rican singer and actor Daniel Bonilla-Torres first studied bassoon in his native island, before going on to take a degree in singing from Manhattan School of Music. He then pursued a career as a lyric singer in the States, before moving to Europe in 1976, where he was a member of the ensembles at the Zurich and the Stuttgart opera houses, while also guest singing in many theatres across Europe, Russia and Japan. In addition to his singing career, he started taking side jobs as an actor on plays and on screen, which is how he first approached the role of Duende in Piazzolla’s ‘Maria de Buenos Aires’. His debut in that role took place at Theater Kiel, in 1999, and he would take on the role on many subsequent occasions across the world. He had also tried his hand at directing projects centered on Argentine music. He has been serving as artistic director and production designer for Komitee Komplett theatre company in Stuttgart since 2008.
