Yuri Gilbo’s conducting career is on a par with the orchestra he leads since 1998 – the Russian Chamber Philharmonic Saint Petersburg – for he became their musical director and artistic director barely a year after his professional debut. Therefore, he decisively shaped the orchestra’s overall profile. Born in Saint Petersburg, Gilbo was himself a student of Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory before moving in the early 1990’s to Germany to study with the great violist Tabea Zimmermann at the Frankfurt Hochschule. He then studied conducting with Luigi Sagrestano. Parallel to the success he achieved directing the Russian Chamber Philharmonic Saint Petersburg, Yuri Gilbo develops a career as guest conductor in orchestras all over the world, with a special emphasis in central Europe and Asia.
