A graduate from Yerevan’s National Conservatory, Samuel Barsegian went on to study at Freiburg’s Musikhochschule with famous American violist Kim Kashkashian. He completed his formative years with courses taken at the Juilliard School, a post-graduation degree from Karlsruhe’s Hochschule für Musik (studying with Madeline Prager there) and private tuition from Rudolf Barshai. As an aspiring conductor, he attended workshops with Bertrand de Billy, Simone Young, David Zinman and Lawrence Foster. His professional experience as an orchestra musician includes the Armenian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Armenian Philharmonic, the Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg (symphonic and lyric repertoire), and Basel’s Symphony and Radio Symphony orchestras. Within Lisbon’s Cantabile Festival of chamber music, he created and conducted the inaugural concert of Lisbon Chamber Orchestra. He first conducted Gulbenkian Orchestra (where he is 1st. principal viola) in 2013.
