Luís Vieira

Luís Vieira has been principal horn of the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra since 2015. Throughout his career, he has been invited to perform with prestigious orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orquesta Nacional de España, Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música, and the Divino Sospiro Baroque Ensemble, under the direction of conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Semyon Bychkov, Valery Gergiev, Herbert Blomstedt, Christian Thielemann, Gustavo Dudamel, Riccardo Chailly, and Andris Nelsons. With these orchestras, he has performed in some of the world’s most renowned concert halls, including the Berliner Philharmonie, Philharmonie de Paris, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Royal Albert Hall (London), and Tonhalle Zurich, among others.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in 2009 from the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas in Castelo Branco, studying under Professor Paulo Guerreiro, and continued his training with Abel Pereira, Eric Terwilliger, and Sarah Willis. From 2011 to 2013, he attended the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, where he studied with Radovan Vlatković and was awarded the Best Horn Student Prize, presented by Queen Sofía of Spain. In 2015, he completed his Master’s degree in Performance at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Switzerland, under the guidance of the same professor.

In 2011, he won the Young Musicians Prize (Prémio Jovens Músicos) and, in 2013, was a finalist at the Città di Porcia International Music Competition. He currently teaches horn at the Lisbon Superior School of Music and the School of Applied Arts in Castelo Branco.
