Luís Vieira

Luís Vieira has been the Principal Horn of the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa since 2015. 

Throughout his career, he has been invited to join prestigious orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, and Ensemble Divino Sospiro, performing under the direction of renowned conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Semyon Bychkov, Valery Gergiev, Herbert Blomstedt, Christian Thielemann, Gustavo Dudamel, Riccardo Chailly, and Andris Nelsons. With these orchestras, he has had the opportunity to perform in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, such as the Berliner Philharmonie, Philharmonie de Paris, Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Royal Albert Hall (London), Tonhalle (Zurich), among others.

Luís Vieira has been principal horn of the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra since 2015. Throughout his career, he has been invited to perform with prestigious orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orquesta Nacional de España, Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música, and the Divino Sospiro Baroque Ensemble, under the direction of conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Semyon Bychkov, Valery Gergiev, Herbert Blomstedt, Christian Thielemann, Gustavo Dudamel, Riccardo Chailly, and Andris Nelsons. With these orchestras, he has performed in some of the world’s most renowned concert halls, including the Berliner Philharmonie, Philharmonie de Paris, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Royal Albert Hall (London), and Tonhalle Zurich, among others.

He completed his Bachelor’s degree in 2009 at the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas de Castelo Branco, under the guidance of Paulo Guerreiro, and furthered his studies with Abel Pereira, Eric Terwilliger, and Sarah Willis. From 2011 to 2013, he attended the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, where he studied with Radovan Vlatković and was awarded the Best Student of the Horn Chair by Queen Sofia of Spain. In 2015, he completed his Master’s in Performance at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Switzerland, also under the guidance of Radovan Vlatković.

In 2011, he won the Prémio Jovens Músicos and in 2013 was a finalist in the Città di Porcia International Music Competition 

Currently, he is a Horn Professor at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas de Castelo Branco.
