André Rosinha, born in Sintra, started studying double bass at the age of 20, simultaneously at the Conservatório Nacional and at the Escola Jazz do Hot Clube de Portugal, also receiving private lessons from Demian Cabaud.
In 2010, he participated in the Lisbon Jazz Summer School as a scholarship holder from the Escola Jazz Luiz Villas-Boas, where he had the opportunity to learn from prominent figures of the American jazz scene, such as Danilo Perez, Ben Street, Adam Cruz, Rogerio Boccato, and Rudresh Mahanthappa.
Attended seminaries and masterclasses with Dave Holland, Matt Penman, Aaron Goldberg, Reuben Rogers, Greg Hutchinson, Chris Cheek, Jorge Rossy, Matt Renzi, Jon Irabagon, Paulinho Braga and Matt Pavolka.
In 2011, he was invited to join the faculty at the Escola Jazz do Hot Clube de Portugal, where he has been teaching ever since. He graduated in Jazz Double Bass from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa in 2014.
“Pórtico” is the name of his first record as bandleader, where he plays his originals along with the musicians João Barradas (accordion), Albert Cirera (saxophone), Eduardo Cardinho (vibraphone) and Bruno Pedroso (drums). Well received by the critics, the album was presented at the iconic Casa da Música in Porto and also Círculo de Jazz de Setúbal.
His second album as a leader, "Árvore", features pianist João Paulo Esteves da Silva and drummer Marcos Cavaleiro. The project was presented at the Centro Cultural de Belém, Jazz 2020 (organized by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation), Seixal Jazz, and Noites Azuladas in Castelo Branco. The album "Triskel" was released in May 2022.
In addition to his project, the bassist is also a member of Salvador Sobral’s band since 2015, with whom he has recorded 5 albums, as well as of the pianist Júlio Resende’s group, João Barradas Trio, Eduardo Cardinho Quintet, Samuel Lercher Trio or Ricardo Pinto Quintet.
He has performed at numerous international jazz festivals, including Jazzaldia, Festival Noches del Botánico, Cadiz Jazz Festival, Festival Au Fil des Voix, Reset Jazz Festival, Jazzfestival Münster, Jazzahead, Sopot Jazz Festival, Jazzkar, and Kaunas Jazz. In Portugal, he is a regular presence at jazz festivals, particularly Funchal Jazz and Seixal Jazz.
André Rosinha has shared the stage with musicians such as Perico Sambeat, Greg Osby, Alexi Tuomarila, Seamus Blake, Marc Miralta, Theo Ceccaldi, Abe Rabade, Jeffery Davis, Xavi Torres, Ben Van Gelder, Roberto Negro, as well as the Portuguese musicians Mário Laginha, João Moreira, Afonso Pais, and André Fernandes.
