Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro

Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro, one of the most internationally acclaimed Portuguese musicians, was born in Porto and studied at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo. He continued his studies at the University of the Arts in Berlin (UdK), where he studied with Professor Michael Wolf, completing both the Artistic Diploma in Double Bass and a Master’s degree.

Throughout his career, he has received international recognition on several occasions, including at the International Double Bass Competition in Houston (USA), and he won First Prize at the Júlio Cardona International Competition.

He has performed with some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, such as the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, NDR Philharmonic Orchestra Hannover, Galicia Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, working under the direction of renowned conductors including Claudio Abbado, Christoph von Dohnányi, Kent Nagano, and Christoph Eschenbach.

In the field of chamber music, he is a member of the DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble, and performs regularly in Portugal and across Europe with internationally acclaimed musicians such as Mihaela Martin, Frans Helmerson, Gérard Caussé, Pascal Moraguès, Adrian Brendel, Marcelo Nisinman, Jack Liebeck, Kyril Zlotnikov, Corey Cerovsek, Benjamin Schmid, José van Dam, Silvia Careddu, Carolin Widmann, Christian Poltéra, and his brother, Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro.

Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro is currently double bassist with the Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música, and Professor of Double Bass and Chamber Music at the University of Aveiro.
