Cellist Leonardo Petracci was born in Rome in 2001. He began his musical studies with his grandfather, Salvatore De Girolamo, and later continued under the guidance of Paolo Andriotti. He attended several masterclasses with Enrico Bronzi and was also a student of Antonio Meneses at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona between 2017 and 2021. Since 2021, he has been studying with Giovanni Gnocchi at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.
From a very young age, Leonardo performed as a soloist with the Junior Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, having played in a concert at the Italian Parliament.
He has won several prizes in national and international competitions, with special mention to the 1st Prize at the “David Popper” International Cello Competition in Hungary.
In 2023, he was a member of the Gustav Mahler JugendOrchester, performing under the direction of Kirill Petrenko and Ingo Metzmacher at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Salzburg Festival, Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Bolzano Festival, Konzerthaus Berlin, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, as well as in Oviedo, Granada, San Sebastián, Wiesbaden, and Dresden. Leonardo also performed with the LGT Young Soloists in concerts in Hanover and at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
In 2019, he founded the Trio Enea, with which he performed at various festivals. In 2023, he played music by Pierre Boulez and Sofia Gubaidulina with “I Violoncelli del Mozarteum,” conducted by Giovanni Gnocchi, at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, at SpazioNovecento in Cremona, and at the “Trame Sonore” Festival in Mantua.
