Pianist Rosa Maria Barrantes began her musical studies at the age of six in her hometown of Lima, Peru. She later continued her training at the Catholic University of Santiago, Chile, where she completed her advanced degree under the guidance of Professor Maria Iris Radrigán. She subsequently entered the prestigious Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, studying with Professor Natalia Troull, and completed her doctorate there with top honors.
It was during her time in Moscow that she formed a piano duo with Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, which has since performed over the past two decades across various European countries, the United States, and Latin America. The duo recorded an album featuring works by Debussy, Fauré, Ravel, Satie, and Poulenc, which received high praise from the international music press.
In the field of chamber music, Rosa Maria Barrantes was a member of the Trio Americano and frequently collaborates with the DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble.
She has performed with some of the most prominent musicians on the international stage, including Anna Samuil, Corey Cerovsek, Adrian Brendel, Pascal Moraguès, Marcelo Nisinman, Héctor del Curto, Chen Halevi, Jack Liebeck, and Gary Hoffman, among many others.
She has served as a Professor of Piano and Chamber Music in the undergraduate music program at Instituto Piaget, the Escola Profissional Metropolitana, and the Conservatório Metropolitano de Lisboa.
Currently, Rosa Maria Barrantes balances her performing career with coordination roles in various festivals, including the Festival & Academy Verão Clássico, held annually in Lisbon, which has established itself as one of the world’s leading festivals and academies.
