Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro

Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro, recognized as one of Portugal’s most internationally respected double bassists, was born in Porto and studied at the School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE). He continued his training at the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK), in the class of Professor Michael Wolf, where he completed both his Artistic Diploma and Master’s Degree in Double Bass.

Over the course of his career, he has received international recognition on several occasions, including at the International Society of Bassists Competition in Houston (USA), and was awarded 1st Prize at the Júlio Cardona International Competition.

He has performed with some of the most prestigious international orchestras, such as the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, NDR Philharmonic Orchestra Hannover, Galician Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, working under the baton of esteemed conductors including Claudio Abbado, Christoph von Dohnányi, Kent Nagano, and Christoph Eschenbach.

In the field of chamber music, he is a member of the DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble, and performs regularly in Portugal and across Europe with internationally acclaimed musicians such as Mihaela Martin, Frans Helmerson, Gérard Caussé, Pascal Moraguès, Adrian Brendel, Marcelo Nisinman, Jack Liebeck, Kyril Zlotnikov, Corey Cerovsek, Benjamin Schmid, José van Dam, Silvia Careddu, Carolin Widmann, Christian Poltéra, and his brother, Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro.

Since 2003, Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro has been a double bassist with the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra, and he is also Professor of Double Bass and Chamber Music at the University of Aveiro.
