Miguel Loureiro

Actor and director, Miguel Loureiro is one of the most sought-after artists in contemporary Portuguese theater. He was honored with the Globo de Ouro SIC/Caras award in 2018 for his role in the play "Esquecer," by Dimítris Dimitriádis, directed by Jean Paul Bucchieri, and with the SPA Authors Award for Best Actor in 2019 for "Timão de Atenas," by William Shakespeare, directed by Nuno Cardoso.
Born in 1970 and graduated in Theater at the Institute of Formation, Research, and Theatrical Creation and at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, he has worked as a performer in theater, opera, and performance shows with artists such as Nuno Carinhas, Luís Miguel Cintra, Bruno Bravo, João Grosso, Luís Castro, Lúcia Sigalho, Maria Duarte, Álvaro Correia, Fabrizio Pazzaglia, Jean-Paul Bucchieri, Carlos Pimenta, André Teodósio, or João Pedro Vaz and structures like Casa Conveniente, Cão Solteiro, O Rumo do Fumo, Teatro da Comuna, ZDB, and A Mala Voadora.
In cinema, he has acted in various short films and in movies such as "Morrer como um Homem" (2009) and "Fogo-Fátuo" (2022), directed by João Pedro Rodrigues. In 2023, he returns to the big screen as the protagonist of "Ubu" by Paulo Abreu. He has been part of television series such as "Os Boys," "País Irmão," "Ministério do Tempo," "Sara," or "3 Mulheres."
He has directed pieces such as "Nova Caledónia" with André Guedes (Culturgest); "Do Natural", by W.G.Sebald (São Luiz); "The Impromptu at Versailles" by Molière (TNDM II, Sala Garrett), "Paris-Sarah-Lisboa" (Thèâtre de la Ville, Paris, and São Luiz), “The beast in the jungle” by Marguerite Duras (CCB), "Frei Luís de Sousa" by Almeida Garrett (TNDMII, Sala Garrett), "The Lady of the Camelias" by Dumas (São Luiz), and "O Homem dos Sonhos," an opera by Chagas Rosa/Mário de Sá Carneiro.
He is also the author of several performances, including: "MINAJesque" (Casa Conveniente); "Experimentalismo Social" (Há-Que-Dizê-Lo); "Melania Melanoma" (Gaivotas 6); and "O Dia do Sabat" (Gaivotas 6).
He received an Interpretation Award in 1998 from the Teatro da Década/Clube Português de Artes e Ideias; an Honorable Mention in 2009 for "Juanita Castro," awarded by the Associação Portuguesa de Críticos de Teatro, and was nominated for the European Theater Award - New Theatrical Realities.
With the Douda Correria publishing house, he published the book "Confissões de um Exilado no Barreiro" (2018).
Since the 2023/2024 season, Miguel Loureiro has been the artistic director of the Teatro Municipal São Luiz.
