Sara Umanskaya is an Israeli violist, born in 2001. She began her musical studies at the Raanana Music Center, under the guidance of Marina Ziskind. She earned her Bachelor's degree at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin, studying with Yulia Deyneka, and is currently completing her Master's degree at the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK), under Sascha Frömbling.
Over the years, Sara has accumulated significant orchestral and chamber music experience. She has participated in renowned orchestral festivals, including the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra (2024) under Manfred Honeck, the Estonian Festival Orchestra (2022) conducted by Paavo Järvi, and the 2023 tour of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under Jakub Hrůša. At the ages of 16 and 17, she led the viola section of the Verbier Festival Youth Orchestra in concerts conducted by Alain Altinoglu, James Gaffigan, and Stanislav Kochanovsky. She is currently completing her training as an academy member with the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin (Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin).
Her chamber music experience was shaped and inspired by playing throughout the years under the guidance of Sergey Bresler of the Jerusalem Quartet, Krzysztof Chorzelski of Belcea quartet and Artis quartet. In addition, Sara had received chamber music and solo lessons from Daniel Barenboim, András Schiff, Kim Kashkashian, Tatjana Masurenko and Roland Glassl.
Sara is a frequent participant of the Itzhak Perlman Music Program in the US and Israel, and a recipient of the AICF scholarship of excellence in 2017, 2019 and 2024.
