Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro

One of Portugal’s leading pianists, Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro has earned broad international recognition both as a soloist and a chamber musician. He got his degree and Doctorate of Musical Arts from Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, where he studied with Lyudmila Roschina, thereafter working his way up in all of Portugal’s main concert halls and festivals, and in a number of prestigious concert series and festivals across Europe and North America. The creation, in 2006, of DSCH-Shostakovich Ensemble, a chamber group formed upon a very original concept, proved a significant moment in his development: over the years, the group has gained widespread recognition as one of the most interesting chamber ensembles in the international arena. DSCH is also behind Filipe’s idea of creating a summer academy in Lisbon, which came to fruition in 2015 under the name Festival e Academia Verão Clássico and quickly rose to be one of the world’s most prestigious events of its kind. Among Filipe’s discography, three recent releases on Paraty/Harmonia Mundi deserve a special mention: his solo CD ‘Piano Seasons’, featuring music by Tchaikovsky, Eurico Carrapatoso and Piazzolla/Nisinman; the complete Shostakovich chamber music for piano and strings and a selection of Beethoven Piano Trios. Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro is a Steinway Artist, a distinction received in 2014 from Steinway & Sons. Starting this year, he is the Artistic Director of Capuchos Festival.
