Joaquim Rocha joined the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra as Bass Trombone in 2017. He’s been invited to collaborate with several groups and orchestras such as Sinfónica da Galiza, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, Orquestra Gulbenkian and Orquestra de Guimarães. Joaquim graduated from Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, where he studied with Professor Severo Martinez, obtaining the higher classification in 2017. He’s been awarded several first prizes such as 2016 First Prize Winner at the George Roberts category for the International Trombone Festival Competition, that took place in the prestigious Juilliard School in New York; 2016 First Prize Winner at the First International Trombone Competition (Castelo de Paiva, Portugal); 2019 First Prize Winner Prémio Jovens Músicos, that allowed him to play solo with the Gulbenkian Orchestra. He participated in several masterclasses with renowned international soloists such as Stefan Schulz, Ian Bousfield, Andreas Klein, David Bruchez, Jamie Williams, Jon Etterbeek, Petur Eiriksson, Filipe Alves, Gabriel Antão, Bill Thomas and Nathan Zgonc.
