Sónia Pais is, since the beginning of 2022, solo flute at the Gulbenkian Orchestra. At the same time, she is pursuing her Master’s studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, in Munich, in the class of the renowned Professor Andrea Lieberknecht. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, in the class of Professor Benoît Fromanger, completing her degree with the highest classification. During her studies she was awarded the Lucia-Loeser Stipendium Scholarship, a scholarship for “exceptional talent”. In 2021, she won the International Music Competition of Gondomar, in which she was awarded the Excellence Prize; she also won the third prize in the Finnish Tampere Flute Fest — “Piccolo Orchestral Competition”. In the same year, she was academist of the Mendelssohln-Orchesterakademie, academy of the Gewandhausorchester zu Leipzig and a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. Throughout her career, she also collaborated with orchestras such as the Dresdner Philharmonie, Tchaikovsky International Orchester Ekaterinburg, Orquestra Clássica de Espinho, Orquesta de Jóvenes de la Sinfónica de Galicia, Orchester der Russische-Deutsche Musik Akademie (in collaboration with the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra).
