Born in Porto, Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro graduated at ESMAE, in his hometown, after which he went to the Universität der Künste in Berlin, where he studied with Michael Wolf, receiving his master and artist diploma degrees. Throughout his career, he received the 1st Prize in the International Competition “Júlio Cardona” and an honorable mention in the International Double Bass Competition of the ISB (International Society of Bassists), in Houston. He has played in some important international orchestras such as the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the NDR Hamburg, the NDR Hannover and the Galicia Symphony Orchestra, among others, where he was conducted by renowned conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Christoph von Dohnányi, Kent Nagano and Christoph Eschenbach. In chamber music, he is a member of the DSCH - Shostakovich Ensemble and has collaborated, in Portugal and in several European countries, with great musicians such as Marcelo Nisinman, Gérard Caussé, Pascal Moraguès, Adrian Brendel, Jack Liebeck, Kyril Zlotnikov, Corey Cerovsek, Benjamin Schmid, José van Dam, Chen Halevi, Tatiana Samouil, Isabel Charisiu, Silvia Careddu and his brother Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro. Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro is a double bassist of the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música and Professor of Double Bass and Chamber Music at the University of Aveiro.
