Born in Miranda do Corvo in 1993, João Paiva began his studies at Conservatório de Música de Coimbra. He continued his training at Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho and obtained his Bachelor and Master degrees at Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo, where he studied with Professor António Saiote. In 2020 he obtained a Master's degree at the Escola Superior de Música Reina Sofía with the highest degrees in the class of Professor Pascal Moraguès. Besides 1st prize at the International Clarinet Association - 2016 Young Artist Competition (Kansas), he was awarded High Distinction at the 2nd Vienna International Music Competition: Musikverein. He also obtained the 1st prize ex-aequo in the 4th Paços Premium Competition in 2010, the 3rd prize ex-aequo in the 4th Terras de La-Salette National Competition, the 2nd prize in the 1st Terras de La-Salette International Competition and the 1st prize in the Festival and Academy Verão Clássico in 2018 and 2021. He has played as a soloist with Orquestra Clássica de Espinho, conducted by Pedro Neves and Orquestra do Norte, conducted by Pedro Andrade. He currently lives in Madrid and this year has collaborated with ORCAM - Fundación Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, with Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid - Titular del Teatro Real and lately with Sir András Schiff's Cappella Andrea Barca.
