Luís Vieira has played solo horn with the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra since 2015. He has performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música and Divino Sospiro Ensemble Barroco, with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Semyon Bychkov, Valery Gergiev, Herbert Blomstedt, Christian Thielemann, Gustavo Dudamel, Riccardo Chailly and Andris Nelsons. He performed in major European venues, such as Berlin Philharmonie, Philharmonie de Paris, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Royal Albert Hall London, Tonhalle Zurich, among others. As part of his academic formation, he participated in orchestras such as The World Orchestra, Lucerne Festival Academy, Schleswig-Holstein Youth Orchestra and Orquesta Joven Sinfónica de Galicia. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Escola Superior das Artes Aplicadas Castelo Branco, with Professor Paulo Guerreiro in 2009, following his studies with Abel Pereira, Eric Terwilliger and Sarah Willis. From 2011 to 2013 he studied in Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, with Radovan Vlatkovic receiving, from the hands of Queen Sofia from Spain, the prize for best horn student. Luís holds his Master’s Degree from Zurcher Hochschule der Kunste, with Professor Radovan Vlatkovic, in 2015. In 2011 he was awarded in Prémio Jovens Músicos and in 2013 was a finalist to the Cittá di Porcia Music Competition. He teaches at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas, in Castelo Branco.
